ZERO ORDER WAVEPLATES - λ/2, λ/4

Waveplates are used in the synthesis and analysis of polarized light. Quarter waveplates transform linearly polarized light into circularly polarized light, and vice-versa. Half waveplates rotate the plane of polarization of linearly polarized light through any angle. They also convert leftcircularly polarized light into right circularly polarized light, and vice-versa.
Zero Order Waveplates are made from two crystalline quartz plates of similar thickness, that are optically contacted together with orthogonally aligned optical axes. Retardation varies slowly with wavelength, thus they are useful with tunable or broadband sources. Retardation is a function of thickness difference between the two plates, and is essentially invariant with temperature.

The hypotenuse is coated with an all dielectric, polarization sensitive coating designed to separate an inciedent, unpolarized, polychromatic beam into its S and P polarization components. The extinction ratio (TP/TS) exceed 500:1 in the transmitted beam. The two orthogonally polarized beams emerge from the cube at 90。with respect to each other. Designed to operate at Brewster’s Angle, they separate an incident, unpolarized, monochromatic beam into its S and P polarization components. The extinction ratio (TP/TS) exceeds 1`00:1 in the transmitted beam. Maximum effciency is achieved by fine angular tuning of the plate about θB. These all dielectric coatings are highly sensitive to wavelength and angle of incidence.

The extinction ratio (Tp/Ts) exceeds 200:1 (for λ≥ 400) nm and 100:1 (for λ〈400 nm) in the transmitted beam.
Maximum efficiency is achieved by fine angular tuning of the plate about θB. These all dielectric coatings are highly sensitive to wavelength and angle of incidence.
